Straightening machine preventive maintenance intervention plan based on AHP: a case study in a steel company in Brazil

Equipment failure and production shortfalls can cause significant impacts on companies. Preventive maintenance potentially increase equipment reliability availability, helping companies achieve their corporate goals while reducing operation costs. However, determining the optimal interval between interventions involves balancing various factors such as costs, risk of failures, need for corrective maintenance, well potential operational financial impacts. Under this context, paper aims to define preventive a key in steel company located Southeast region Brazil. Upon documental analysis interviews with experts, an AHP was applied hierarchize periodicity, based following criteria: part replacement service life, downtime hours reliability, cost materials labour. A biweekly periodicity identified most adequate analysed device. An implementation plan approved preliminary results indicate no availability deterioration, costs are below historical average.
